Baked Zucchini Chips

I LOVE zucchini!  I cook it all the time for a mid-afternoon or a late evening snack.  However I was wondering the other day, ‘there has to be more ways to cook zucchini than just on top of my stove.’

I started browsing the internet and came across a baked zucchini chips recipe.

Remember because it is a “baked” recipe it will take longer to cook; however the upside is that it only takes  3 ingredients.
  • 4 medium zucchini (long and thin), sliced very thinly
  • cooking spray
  • sea salts
If you decide to try this simple easy and delicious recipe, let me know what you think!

Plateau: Weight Loss and How to Beat It

Have you ever gone on a diet or worked out and then all of a sudden stopped seeing results?  There might be 3 reasons for this.

Possible reasons you are stuck:

  1. You’re being repetitive: The same moves and exercise schedule causes your body to become use to it all; thus slowing down or stopping any further results.

FIX IT: by adding VARIETY! Mix up your workout schedule by changing the moves, OR completely replacing them with new ones.

2.  You aren’t doing enough: You might feel like you are doing enough, and maybe that was working.  But when it stops working what do you do?

FIX IT: by adding more!  Yes all you have to do is add more reps or better yet cardio. Go for a run!

3. Your’e doing too much to fast: How is this possible? Well it is, and sometimes your body can’t comprehend it.

FIX IT: by slowing down a bit!  Your body needs time to adjust to new habits and diets (if on one).

Remember

  • know your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate; the number of calories you’d burn if you stayed in bed all day.)
  • add more weight when exercising (don’t stay on the same weight level just because u can lift it.  Once you got it down, challenge yourself and lift a couple of pounds more.)
  • drink more water (remember 6-8 glasses a day)
  • eat more metabolism boosting foods
  • DO NOT GIVE UP

How To Lose Weight Without Exercise

Many cultures have wondered, “is it possible to lose weight by not working out?”  The truth is yes, (even though you should work out).  If you have a desk job, or a job to were you have hardly any time to work out except for when you need to get up to run to the restroom this is for you.

You can always lose weight just by eating healthier BUT, according to livestrong.com there are 4 things that you can do, that can help you achieve this goal of losing weight with out working out.

  • Eliminate Unnecessary Calories – Cut out snack foods such as crackers, chips, cookies and candy. Sweets, fast foods and fried foods should be reserved for special occasions.
  • Reduce Your Portions – Dole out servings using measuring cups, following recommended serving sizes from recipes. Eat out less often, and when you do, plan on taking some home with you, as restaurants tend to supersize their portions.
  • Fool Yourself – Load your plate with greens and veggies.  Two cups of romaine lettuce provides fiber; add carrots and other veggies and before you know it you have a plate that’s 100 calories or less (depending on dressing).
  • Drink Smarter– Approximately everyone gains 10 pounds from drinking soda each year.  Think of all the calories you could save if you drink water, milk or green tea.  Green tea has no calories and contains catechins that boost your metabolism and burn fat; and drinking a glass of water shortly before a meal can reduce calorie intake.  Read more at livestrong.com

Hunger vs. Boredom vs. Thirst

Have YOU ever had that feeling as if you were hungry but couldn’t tell?  It happens to every one, and most can not tell whether they are bored, hungry, or just need a drink of water.

Ways to tell the difference

1)  If you are bored, you are usually just looking for something to do, and most of the times you think food.  However most of the time it is your body telling you that you need to be hydrated with water (NOT soda, coffee, or beer) but water!  Next time you think you are bored, drink some water, go do an activity outside/watch tv while you wait 10 – 15 minutes and if you are still not satisfied then you are probably hungry after all.

2) Many people get that growling in their stomachs.  Most of the times I automatically think that I need something to eat.  Like I said before, wait a couple of minutes, drink some water and hey..maybe have a small snack like a handful of grapes or a small orange.  Usually this will do the trick, and your “hunger” will go away.

3) Thirst!  A lot of people including myself sometimes forget that hydration is key, and that’s  all they need.  After eating every 3 hours, I sometimes forget that I need to drink water constantly in between my meals. When I forget to do this, like many out there I think that I need a snack.  So why not try always carrying a bottle of water with you, or maybe some green tea that you brewed at home; just in case if that hunger feeling comes along out of know where.  It probably means that you are thirsty.

Losing flab, while staying toned

My friend asked me the other day “Jess what should I do, I need to lose weight but want to keep toned.  Should I do Cardio or lift weights?”

A mix of both is great!  BUT if you really want to lose that belly flab, love handles, all that extra stuff that you just don’t like, lifting is really the way to go.

Don’t be scared to try this like most girls, because they don’t want to become to muscular. Surprise that does not happen unless you want it too.  PLUS there are some major benefits from doing this.

Womens health magazine will give you the skinny on weight lifting, the benefits and how it will keep you toned and in shape!

One more thing...

Love Handles…YUCK

I don’t know about you, but I have them and am not a fan.  I want them gone by summer if not by spring break.

So I searched the web and came across a great article.  It gives you a weekly exercise plan, what you should and should not do etc.  It may sound intense but remember, if you don’t try no results will show.

Yoga

So I don’t know how many of you like yoga (any type) or have even tried it; but I LOVE it.  If you ever get the chance I highly recommend you try Hot Yoga or Bikram Yoga, (pretty similar.)

It is set in a 99 -105 degree room, which feels amazing (especially in the winter time).

The benefits from yoga are amazing, you get in shape, can lose weight , and did I say become toned!?  I can’t forget to mention the best part.  INVERSIONS!

Inversions can include headstand, crow, side crow, road kill.  all different types.  My first picture is an example of an inversion…side crow!

If you are wondering why I LOVE it so much, quick-fit-yoga has all the information you would want to know
