Have you ever tried workout after workout hoping to see results and didn’t? Last Spring I decided to try Weight Watchers; maybe it wasn’t my workout routines that was the problem and more my eating habits. To my surprise that’s exactly what it was.
I started Weight Watchers weighing 145lbs with a goal of 130lbs; I knew that I could achieve my goal but not just by eating right…I had to start exercising again. So I decided to take up yoga as well as run a 1/2 marathon. After months of hard dedication of eating right everyday and training, I was in the best shape I had ever been.
When August rolled around, I ran my 1/2 marathon and then came February and my yoga membership was up. I didn’t renew it because it was my last semester in college and I needed to focus on getting everything done and graduating. I kept eating right with Weight Watchers, but I learned no matter how healthy you eat, you need to workout to stay in shape. I stayed at my goal weight but I still wasn’t satisfied. I wanted..no NEEDED to have the flat abs and muscular legs that I could show off when I wear a dress.
I decided to start eating clean (still doing weight watchers) as well as start Boxing at TITLE Boxing Club, and to get a membership at the YMCA. I can’t stress enough how happy I am with my decision. FYI – TITLE Boxing is a boot camp-style workout, and although the website says that everyone can go at their own pace, there’s definitely a vibe that you’d better keep up — which is great if you want to be pushed to get your workout on, but know that this is not a mellow aerobics class — according to the owners, if you follow everything the instructor says, the average person burns 1,000 calories in this class. Sounds great right? Well it is! It’s a total body workout. The best part is that every instructor has their own unique routine so you never get use to or bored with it.
I decided to start eating clean and be done with the frozen foods when I saw one of my old co-workers doing it. She has lost 80 pounds in the last 2 years, and has 50 more pounds to go to reach her weight. I know I don’t have that much to lose, BUT if I know what I am cooking and I can do it myself everyday, why not do it? I shouldn’t have an excuse anymore. Eating clean will help me go from thin, to FIT. I will get the toned body I have always wanted as long as I meal prep, and workout everyday. I know I can do this! Do you think you can?
I was e-mailed an interesting article the other day and thought I might share it with ya’ll According to Runners World’s article titled Food Science,
Blueberries protect you on long runs
A pint of beer helps prevents colds – and can help when running a marathon
Ice baths hinder muscle refueling, and
Chocolate milk helps lose body fat
I do not believe the beer “fact”, and I find the chocolate milk fact, very interesting. I have never heard either before this article. I will have to test those two out and let you know if they work or not.
So I’m taking a couple of summer classes this summer and that is why I have been away for some time. While in school, I have been thinking about adding stuff to my blog. Not just recipes and fitness but maybe some fashion. As of now it is just a thought, but I think variety is always a good thing.
Growing up, whenever someone in my house got a cut or scrape, my mom would get out the hydrogen peroxide and pour it on until the bubbles subsided. The only thing about her ways that made me think twice was knowing that the hydrogen peroxide was going to sting, but if it bubbled up, it meant it was dirty and in need of cleaning. Remember those good ol’ days?!
I kept up that tradition for quite some time thinking that my mom must have known what she was doing, so there wasn’t any reason why I should do things differently. Then one day I learned that while cleaning wounds with hydrogen peroxide isn’t bad, it doesn’t actually work very well as an antiseptic and the bubbles are really just something cool to look at, as opposed to any real indication of how dirty the area is (check out http://science.howstuffworks.com/innovation/science-questions/question115.htm for more info on that). It was…
I follow the amazing Kino Macgregor through her Facebook page, and she just posted a video this evening. Truly inspirational! I think yoga has amazing benefits. I also think eating whole, real foods has amazing benefits. So often we are encouraged to find hope within western-medicine and thinking. Again, I’m not against medication (as we know it) when needed, but I truly believe in the power of eating well and employing complimentary therapies like yoga, massage, and acupuncture to help people who are truly hurting.
Earlier today my friend Alex told me that today was “National Star Wars Day”, and then proceeded to say “may the fourth be with you.” Now mind you I was clueless at first until he explained, because I am not into Star Wars what-so-ever.
Ever since he mentioned this, all I have heard or seen has to deal with Star Wars. So todays post has to do with Star Wars.
I was looking for fun and creative treats to make so you can celebrate today and I think I came upon some pretty good recipes.
I know what you are thinking, yogurt mixed with salsa? It is a twist on the regular salsa we know, so why not try it? It is also healthy, so if you really want to go bold and try this dish try using greek yogurt!
The other day at work, my co-worker and I were discussing how we both dislike soda. However he needed something to wake him up, so he decided to have a sip of soda over having coffee. He couldn’t decide whether to have Coca-Cola or Barq’s Root Beer because he did not know which had more caffeine. So I told him I would look it up for him.
I found much more than I bargained for while looking this up, but like I promised I found out which had more caffiene.
Coca-Cola or Barq’s Root Beer, which one would you pick??
Most companies list their caffeine content levels for an 8 oz. drink, thus showing a lower mg caffeine level. This soda chart has the manufacturer listed 8 oz. size and a 12 oz. scaled up version to reflect what you are really getting in your 12 oz. can of soda.
In short, I found that Coca-Cola has more caffeine than Barq’s Root Beer. Coca Cola has 34.5mg in just one single 12 oz. can, while Barq’s Root Beer only has 22.5mg in a 12 oz. can.
I think most of us have figured out that what we put into our bodies affects the outside, our skin. There are so many amazing foods that can make a huge difference in the health of your skin and the easiest way to take advantage of using multiple super foods at once is to…make a smoothie!! Smoothies sound especially nice during this time of year when the weather is getting warmer and we are showing more skin; here is a recipe for a smoothie I made today to not only quench my thirst but also to indulge my skin.
Strawberries- All berries are a great source of antioxidants which I am sure everyone has been hearing about for a while now. Antioxidants protect the skin against free radical damage, aid in anti aging and prevent further damage to the skin (1 cup sliced).
